Classes For All Ages

Canton Ballet’s robust Summer Program, under the artistic direction of Jennifer Catazaro Hayward, offers classes for dancers of all ages and skill levels outside of the typical school year. Younger dancers are engaged in fun and developmentally-appropriate curriculum through themed day camps and classes, while more advanced dancers concentrate on progressing their skills and artistry through workshops and intensives.

Join us for three exciting mornings at our storybook-themed camp! Children will enjoy themed crafts, games, and special visits from Canton Ballet Company dancers, performing in their beautiful princess tutus.

Our Children’s Division is designed for young dancers beginning on their dance journey. Through captivating stories and props, we enhance the themes studied. Children will delve into the foundations of dance, exercising alongside a parent or guardian, using both their bodies and imaginations. The foundations of dance are taught under the guidance of instructors who specialize in early childhood education.

PREDANCE

June 16 – July 23 | 6 week session
Designed for the youngest students, this class stresses coordination, large motor skill development, musical awareness, spatial awareness, and listening skills. Musical instruments such as bells, rhythm sticks, shakers and tambourines, along with age appropriate activity resources and special music help engage the students’ attention and imagination.

Princess & Pirate Club

During the Princess & Pirate Club, the children will continue to learn about the foundation of dance while exercising both their bodies and imaginations. Concepts such as directionality, tempo, locomotion, and spatial awareness are explored under the guidance of instructors who specialize in early childhood education. Come wearing your favorite costume for your final class!

Dancing Through the Canvas:
A Dance + Art Adventure

July 3 – July 24 | 4 week session
Children aged 4 to 6 are invited to embark on an exciting journey into the realms of dance and art. This story ballet themed series, offered completely free of charge, will provide a rich blend of age-appropriate dance instruction followed by creative art classes centered around the same theme. Sessions will be hosted in the welcoming environment of Canton Ballet studios and at the Wilkof Courtyard at the Canton Museum of Art.

2-WEEK PREPARATORY A WORKSHOP

June 23 – July 2
As the final level in our Children’s Division for dancers embarking on their journey, the curriculum prepares children for the Student Division. In addition to expanding their understanding of the dance foundation, students continue to exercise both their bodies and imaginations, learning exercises that promote flexibility, strength, alignment, and turnout under the guidance of instructors who specialize in early childhood education.

For current Canton Ballet students enrolled in Prep A for the 2024-25 school year, as well as new students aged 6 by August 1, or those with equivalent experience (instructors reserve the right to move students to different levels better suited to their development).

3-WEEK DIVISION A

July 8 July 24
Our Student Division is for dancers who wish to continue their ballet training. Classes focus on technique, repertoire, and varied dance disciplines. The curriculum concentrates on correct placement of the body, head, arms, and feet in the five positions and requires that students have already developed good concentration skills. Students will also take classes in jazz, Progressing Ballet Technique (PBT) and stretching/strength. We place students in the Student Division based on the class that will best suit their continued development as a dancer.

For current Canton Ballet students enrolled in A-1 or A-2 for the 2024-25 school year, as well as new students aged 7-9 by August 1, or those with equivalent experience (instructors reserve the right to move students to different levels better suited to their development).

Level C and D students expand their vocabulary and further their technique and strength by learning more complex steps and combinations. Students take a daily ballet technique class and a (pre)pointe class, as well as additional classes in genres such as jazz, modern, Progressing Ballet Technique (PBT), and Yoga.

For current Canton Ballet students enrolled in C-1, C-2, or higher for the 2024-25 school year, as well as new students aged 10-12 by August 1, or those with equivalent experience (instructors reserve the right to move students to different levels better suited to their development).

Cost per week: $380

Workshop Benefits

Students take a daily ballet technique class for 1.5 hours, a pre-pointe/pointe class/etc. for 1 hour, and then an additional class in genres such as jazz, modern, Progressing Ballet Technique (PBT), and Yoga.

C & D group students work on more complex steps, combinations and vocabulary are added to the dancer’s curriculum. Classes become longer and a day is added to the weekly schedule. Pointe classes are included in this curriculum.
