It’s not every day a ballet company turns 60. As Canton Ballet enters this milestone season, we’re not only looking back on six decades of artistry, but also forward — with fresh leadership, new board members, and an exciting Annual Report that celebrates our dancers and alumni.
This year feels like both a celebration and a new chapter.
Fresh Faces Bringing Fresh Energy
We’re thrilled to welcome Jacqueline Scott and Angela Rembert to our Board of Directors.
Jacqueline wears many hats in the community — Executive Administrative Assistant to the President of the Stark County NAACP, founder and CEO of Girl Conversations, and Director of Programs and Compliance at Chasing Hope House, which supports teens in foster care and assists them with transitioning into independent living to deter homelessness. Her passion for empowering young people shines through everything she does.
“As I step into this role, I am committed to collaboration, growth, and expanding access to the transformative power of the performing arts,” she shared.
Angela brings her own blend of expertise in higher education and community leadership. She currently works in the Advising Department as the Financial Advisor for the City University of Seattle and serves as a college readiness coordinator at the Stark County Community Action Agency. With more than a decade of experience guiding students and her active role in local organizations like the Stark Library Foundation Board and Junior League, she’s no stranger to making a difference.
“Dance builds discipline, confidence, and creativity,” Angela said. “I am eager to contribute to an organization that helps young people thrive both on and off the stage.”
Both women bring heart, vision, and a deep belief in the power of the arts to shape lives — exactly the kind of energy we love to welcome into our family.
Experienced Leadership, Rooted in Legacy
Guiding us through this landmark year is Amie Diamond, who continues her second term as Board President. Amie’s story is also our story: she grew up dancing at Canton Ballet, trained at elite summer intensives like the School of American Ballet in New York, and later built a distinguished career as a physical therapist at the Hospital for Special Surgery—the nation’s #1 orthopedic hospital.
While living in New York, Amie was also an active supporter of New York City Ballet — proof that once dance is in your life, it never leaves. Today, she brings that same passion home to Canton, giving back to the place where her own journey began.
“We are thrilled to welcome Jacqueline Scott and Angela Rembert to our board,” Amie said. “Their dedication and expertise bring fresh perspectives and strengthen our mission-driven work.”
Joining her in board leadership are Dr. Maria Charif as Vice President, Thomas Yankle as Treasurer, and Kristen DeDent, the ballet’s newly elected Secretary. DeDent, who has dedicated more than 20 years to Aultman Hospital and now serves as Director of Quality and Safety at Access Telecare, has also shown remarkable dedication to fundraising, chairing the Ballet’s board fundraiser for two consecutive years with great success.
Spotlight on Student Success
Of course, the heartbeat of Canton Ballet is always our students. The newly released 2024/25 Annual Report celebrates what they’ve accomplished this past year:
- Acceptance into prestigious college dance and theater programs.
- Training at leading national summer intensives.
- Alumni who are thriving in professional arts and entertainment careers across the country.
These achievements reflect the Ballet’s reputation as one of Ohio’s most respected pre-professional training companies — and more importantly, the joy, discipline, and creativity that our dancers carry with them wherever they go.

A Season of Legacy in Motion
As we celebrate six decades of dance, Canton Ballet is more than just a training ground. We’re a community — of dancers, families, alumni, board members, and supporters — all connected by the belief that the arts change lives.
With new leaders stepping in, seasoned voices guiding the way, and students writing the next chapter, our 60th anniversary season is shaping up to be one for the books.
Here’s to honoring our past, celebrating our present, and dancing boldly into the future.
