Connecting with Our Community

Spirit of Artistry

Canton Ballet’s Community Impact Programs embody our passion for artistry and our commitment to the community. We believe in making ballet accessible to everyone, regardless of age or background. Our programs offer dynamic, multi-sensory learning experiences through engaging dance activities, fostering a deep appreciation for ballet as a vital and vibrant cultural art form for all who participate.

Performances for All Ages

Each year, Canton Ballet offers two opportunities for local schools and homeschool groups to experience the magic of dance on stage and the benefits of arts exposure through its productions of Peter and the Wolf and The Nutcracker. These matinee performances are only open to student groups and allow youth to see a real pre-professional performance — complete with costumes, sound, lighting, make-up and sets! Canton Ballet provides local educators with corresponding study guides that align with Ohio’s Fine Arts Academic Standards.

From preschool through high school, live performance provides a lesson in history, ballet, and music for area school children. School performances are funded in part by ArtsinStark and the Ohio Arts Council.

Joy of Movement

Joy of Movement is Canton Ballet’s premier outreach program for dance instruction, providing local preschools with access to on-site dance activities led by Lower School Principal/Early Childhood Specialist, Julie Mizer Grasse. Instruction can either be held during normal school hours or as an after-school program.

These classes focus on children ranging in age from 3-5 years old and can be held with a general population of students or tailored to meet the needs of those at-risk.

The cost of Joy of Movement is $360 for an 8-week session of 30-minute classes held once per week. Please contact us at 330.455.7220 or cantonballet@cantonballet.com if you are interested in bringing this program to your school.

Explore The Benefits

Many experts believe that a child who has not been exposed to dance has missed an important developmental opportunity. Through the language of movement, children in Joy of Movement discover imaginative uses of their bodies while developing good posture, coordination, rhythm, self confidence and the ability to work with other children. Experience has shown that these classes fulfill important needs of preschoolers to move with grace and to exercise their imaginations.

Lecture Demonstrations

Experience the beauty and excitement of ballet firsthand with Canton Ballet’s engaging In-School Lecture Demonstrations. Throughout the school year, our talented dancers and experienced instructors are available to visit your school or community group, offering a unique blend of performance and interactive learning.
