CANTON, OH — Canton Ballet proudly announces that company dancer Kaitlyn Giltz has been accepted to study year-round at the School of American Ballet (SAB), the official school of New York City Ballet and one of the most prestigious ballet institutions in the world. Kaitlyn, an incoming sophomore at Jackson High School and the daughter of Amy and Harry Giltz, joins a highly selective group of young dancers from across the globe.
Giltz earned her spot at SAB following her second summer intensive at the school, where she was recognized for her technical strength, dedication, and artistic potential.
“I’m incredibly honored and excited to be continuing my training at the School of American Ballet,” said Giltz. “It’s been a dream of mine for as long as I can remember, and I’m so thankful for the training and support I received at Canton Ballet, which prepared me for this next step.”
Canton Ballet’s Executive Artistic Director Jennifer Catazaro Hayward, who also trained at SAB, emphasized the significance of this achievement — both for Kaitlyn and for the organization.
“This is a tremendous honor for Kaitlyn, and we couldn’t be prouder,” said Hayward. “Being accepted into SAB’s year-round program is one of the highest endorsements a young dancer can receive. It reflects Kaitlyn’s hard work and the exceptional training environment we’ve built here at Canton Ballet.”
Hayward herself began her own ballet journey at Canton Ballet before earning a coveted spot at SAB — a path that deeply influences her leadership and vision for the school today.
“I know firsthand how critical a strong foundation is,” Hayward added. “Our program is designed to give students the technical excellence, discipline, and artistry needed to thrive in the most competitive settings.”
To support more dancers pursuing pre-professional goals, Canton Ballet is launching a new Daytime Professional Track (DPT) program this fall — an intensive daytime training opportunity designed for students seeking high-level instruction alongside flexible academic arrangements.
The Daytime Professional Track program is by invitation only, and interested candidates may call Canton Ballet to schedule an audition. Students do not need to be currently enrolled at Canton Ballet.
Zachary Catazaro, Canton Ballet’s Resident Master Teacher and former New York City Ballet principal dancer, confirmed how important this type of training structure is for dancers preparing for professional careers.
“Our new Daytime Professional Track combined with the students’ normal training schedule, aims to prepare young dancers for a professional ballet career,” said Catazaro. “It affords the students the time and consistency necessary to build stronger classical technique and physical readiness and provide them with a schedule more aligned with what a larger ballet school associated with a professional ballet company would offer.”
With Kaitlyn’s success and the introduction of its new Daytime Professional Track program, Canton Ballet continues to lead the way in providing pre-professional ballet training in Northeast Ohio, preparing dancers for careers at the highest level.
