Canton Ballet Students and Faculty Honored at Regional Dance America Northeast Festival

May 15, 2026

Canton Ballet recently returned from the 2026 Regional Dance America Northeast Festival, held May 7–9 in Albany, New York, where the organization and its dancers received multiple honors recognizing excellence in performance, choreography, and dance education.

The annual Regional Dance America Festival brings together pre-professional dancers and dance companies from across the northeastern United States for an intensive weekend of performances, adjudications, scholarship master classes, and networking opportunities with leading dance professionals and educators. The festival is recognized as one of the premier regional training and performance experiences for young dancers pursuing collegiate and professional careers in dance.

In addition to participating in a full weekend of performances and classes, students from Canton Ballet trained alongside peers from respected regional companies and schools throughout the country.

Jackson High School senior Ashlyn Wood, a student in Canton Ballet’s Pre-Professional Division II program, received multiple scholarship awards during the festival, including a $1,000 cash scholarship to further her dance education and the Vineland Regional Dance Scholarship Award. This fall, she will attend the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music to continue her dance training and academic studies.

Callahan Conley, a student at Wadsworth High School and a dancer in Canton Ballet’s Pre-Professional Division II program, was recognized during the festival with a scholarship award for excellence demonstrated during scholarship classes and evaluations.

Faculty and artistic staff from Canton Ballet were also honored during the festival. Teaching artist and choreographer Khiana Saneshige received the Emerging Choreography Scholarship Award for her contemporary work Ensō. Saneshige serves on the faculty of Canton Ballet as the organization’s Community Education Coordinator and is recognized for her contemporary choreography, teaching artistry, and mentorship of young dancers throughout Northeast Ohio.

Additionally, resident master teacher Zachary Catazaro reprised his ballet La Folia as part of the festival’s Gala performance. Created in 2013, the ballet returned to the stage as part of the featured gala repertoire, highlighting the continued artistic contributions of Canton Ballet faculty and alumni within the regional dance community.

“We are incredibly proud of our dancers and faculty for the artistry, professionalism, and dedication they demonstrated throughout the festival,” said Jennifer Catazaro Hayward. “Regional Dance America provides an extraordinary opportunity for students to train and perform at a high level while connecting with the broader dance community, and we are honored to have Canton Ballet represented so strongly.”
