Canton Ballet is pleased to announce the appointment of two new members to its Board of Directors: Emily Gessner and Irene Barker. Both will serve three-year terms, bringing extensive experience in strategic leadership, marketing, and community engagement to support the organization’s continued growth and impact.
Emily Gessner serves as Senior Vice President and Head of Consumer Digital for KeyBank, where she leads digital strategy, product innovation, and client experience. A results-driven executive, she has held leadership roles across digital product management, marketing, and investor relations at KeyBank, implementing initiatives that align technology, customer experience, and business performance. She currently serves on the Board of Directors for Theatre West in Cleveland. Gessner holds a Master of Business Administration from Case Western Reserve University and a Bachelor of Arts in Finance from Baldwin Wallace University.
Irene Barker brings over three decades of professional experience, beginning her career at The Hoover Company before advancing into leadership roles with the Canton Symphony Orchestra and the United Way of Greater Stark County. Throughout her career, Barker has developed advertising, merchandising, and education initiatives that fostered collaboration among community partners, educators, artists, and volunteers. She has a strong history of creating outreach and public engagement programs that connect the arts with audiences of all ages. Barker earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Education with a minor in Business Management from Kent State University.
Together, Gessner and Barker bring fresh strategic perspectives that strengthen Canton Ballet’s governance and align with its commitment to excellence in education, outreach, and community collaboration.
“After completing more than ten hours of strategic planning this summer with Mike Gallina of AultCare, our board and key staff identified clear priorities for growth, sustainability, and community impact,” said Amie Diamond, Canton Ballet Board President. “Emily and Irene each bring invaluable skills in leadership and community engagement that will enhance our ability to serve and inspire through the arts.”
Canton Ballet’s Board of Directors provides governance, strategic direction, and philanthropic leadership to sustain the Ballet’s artistic excellence and educational programs that serve youth and families throughout Northeast Ohio.
